For the past few years, I’ve been trying to develop a game that blends fun and language learning. I finally have a prototype and my family have been playtesting ‘Lasta Karto’- Yoruba. I’ve even road tested it on a few hapless individuals and made refinements. It’s been approved for manufacture and global distribution!

The game is easy, fun, versatile and educational all at the same time

How to Play

Lasta Karto blends elements of Nigerian Whot and International Uno, but mixed with fun language challenges! Players must match colors or numbers, as usual, but while tackling language tasks like:

• Pronouncing
• Defining words
• Battling with synonyms
• Rhyming under pressure

Typical Gameplay

• Assign “language ability” tokens at the start of the game
• Match cards and speak!
• Remember to say “Last Card!” when down to one, or risk drawing penalties!
• Win by discarding all cards first, while others tally points from their leftovers.

Why You’ll Love It

The game is smart, adaptable, looks awesome, and is easy to play. It has no complex rules. When the prototype deck arrived, I ripped it out of the packaging and started a round by dealing cards to my wife and I, I explained as we played, and she still beat me. More than 95% of the words are from the associated Phonics Book (Yoruba Phonics book 1 being the flagship), so this game is the perfect playground for using what has been learnt from the book.
